Wow, I just got back from Giant Eagle and tomorrow is the last day of $1.00 doubles!!! They will continue to double coupons up to $0.99 but anything $1.00 and over will be face value. There will still be a 4 coupon limit per day.
I would highly recommend looking through your coupon binders and getting a shopping list ready for tomorrow. I will be stocking up tomorrow!!
I would love to hear your thoughts on this. I will even relay them to the Giant Eagle store manager.

Wow! That totally stinks! No sense in shopping at Giant Eagle anymore since Kroger and Meijer are cheaper.
Wouldn't it be nice if companies would start putting out $.99 coupons instead of $1 so we could doublem them? Just a thought!
any word if Kroger is going to stop doubling up to and including $1.00?
Same for me, I only shop there for the double coupons, without that deal I will just go to Meijer/Kroger.

Seriously???? They must be crazy......their sales aren't enough to keep the shoppers. That penny is going to make a *BIG* difference to a lot of people......hello Meijer and Kroger.
I agree . No more giant eagle for us. I will gladly make the trip from Sylvania to Perrysburg Kroger just because of the coupons. Very frustrating. I know thw majority of us are moms just trying to make the most on a budget.
That was the main reason I went to Giant Eagle. I will be shopping at Meijer and Kroger!
I won't be shopping at the Eagle much anymore either. I think with all the competition in Toledo for grocery dollars, they are going to regret this. I'll go through my coupon box and make a last trip tomorrow.
That really stinks! I drive from Michigan just to go to Giant Eagle in Sylvania. Now I will have to drive longer to go to Kroger in Perrysburg. Tomorrow will be my last day shopping at Giant Eagle, too! Ugh!

I would love to know if Kroger is following GE's lead. I was told that they would only double while GE doubles. Better check that out before you head to Perrysburg. My tail will be shopping at Meijer!
Ugh! I was just coming home to e-mail Melanie this news. :( My favorite cashier told me that the employees had NO notice either. She found out when she came into work today. She also told me that there are rumors that Food Lion is interested in coming to Toledo and that GE will fold if that happens. This is just so frustrating. I got over 100 items there today for $23 and got $33 OYNO back. My grocery budget is going to go up a lot because of this and it stinks. :(
I was just getting on here to post this!!! I am so bummed. The other posters are correct, Giant Eagle prices are always higher, doubling the dollar coupons were the saving grace to make Giant Eagle competitive with the other stores in the region. Please share all of our comments with the store manager--and hopefully they will share with their corporate office. I believe this change will affect GE sales. I know we find a lot of great deals, but we also spend a lot of money there! So sad!!!
p.s... we got a large bag of apples, a large bag of oranges, a pineapple and celery for only $4.25ish at Aldi today!! Great produce prices!!
Is this ALL Giant Eagles that are making this change? I go to the GE in Rossford/Perrysburg more than the Toledo one. I'm going to make a trip there tomorrow as well, but if it is true I probably wont be shopping at GE anymore. REALLY bummed! :(
oh wow...this is horrible news.
This means that Pburg Kroger will be right behind them. They were only doubling $1 c's b/c GE was.
This is going to be such a sales loss for those stores.
I was at Giant Eagle today and noticed that they are not doubling coupons of $1.00. That was one of the main reasons i went to GE. I live very close to the GE on Central, but looks like i'll spend my money at Meijer and Kroger and even Walmart.
Spoke to a cashier at my local Kroger today (not Perrysburg). She said they are already hearing that $1 doubles at PBurg Kroger will be ending as well.
I am SO bummed about this! Especially if Kroger stops doubling $1s, too! This blows my entire shopping strategy. :( I will be emailing both Giant Eagle and Kroger corporate.
This is not a local decision. Its a Corporate one. I didn't even know they wree stopping it until it was to late. I think I am going to have to start paying closer attention to the Kroger deals now! I hate Meijer because they only double 2 of the same. Has this policy changed at all??
